There are two important items you need to have in your home if World War 3 ever takes place.

Fears of a global conflict are growing as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate following deadly strikes in Iran, which have led to the killing of the country’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with several members of his family.

Since then, Iran has retaliated by targeting neighboring countries linked to the US and Israel, while also moving to shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route that is responsible for roughly 20 percent of the world’s liquefied natural gas trade and a major share of global energy shipments.

As global uncertainty rises, a YouTube channel known as Canadian Prepper has outlined key items people should consider having at home in the event of a major conflict.

The Must-Have Device For Staying Informed

According to the creator, one of the most important items is an “old-fashioned radio system”.

He explained: “It has a crank charger on the side. It also has a solar panel system that just flips up just like that.

“There’s an onboard lithium battery for recharging and there’s an AC adapter that you can get separately. KO radios and similar shortwave radios come in all shapes and sizes. I would strongly recommend you have something like this.”

He said the device is “relatively inexpensive for what they enable you to do,” adding: “This can mean the difference between having no idea as to what happened and being able to make an informed plan for what comes next.”

The advice aligns with official UK government guidance under its “Prepare” campaign, which encourages households to be ready for major emergencies, including wartime disruption.

“There might be updates communicated by radio during a power cut,” the government states. “A car radio can be used, however in severe weather it might be safer to stay inside. Write down on paper the frequencies of any local or national radio stations you use for news updates.”

Officials also recommend having manually powered tools like a wind-up torch to provide light during prolonged outages.

Stocking Up on Freeze-Dried Food

Another key item highlighted is freeze-dried food, which the YouTuber described as both practical and valuable over time.

He recommended sourcing products from a brand called NutriStore, which offers “a variety of different types of food, real beef cubes, real cheddar cheese, and real fruits and vegetables”.

“Now, as you can appreciate, this stuff is quite expensive because of inflation, and the process of freeze drying food is very energy intensive. This is essentially currency because something like this, you can store it in a cool, dark place. It’s going to be good forever,” he explained.

He added that the quality holds up long term, saying taste will always “be there” and that it is “an overall good investment”.

“And because the currency is constantly being debased through inflation, chances are in 10 years, the premium that you paid for this today will likely be completely meaningless because at that point in time, the cost of this is going to be three times as much, but it’s going to be the exact same product that you buy today,” he added.

Other Vital Items

The YouTuber also shared several additional items people may want to keep at home.

These include a water bob, designed to safely store drinking water, and a gas mask, explaining that “you’re likely going to have riots and martial law, so you need to protect against tear gas”.

He also pointed to nuclear preparedness tools such as a survival book, a Geiger counter to detect radiation, and potassium iodide tablets.

For physical protection, sandbags were suggested for use as both a ballistics barrier and for flood mitigation, along with doorade to help guard against home invasions.

Other recommendations included fuel storage, a solar power supply, and body armor for added protection.
