Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis gave an update on her husband’s condition, revealing that he is still ‘present’ in his body and able to ‘connect’ with her in some way.
The Hollywood star has been battling dementia for some time now, and is now living separately to his family.
Bruce Willis is suffering from frontotemporal dementia
Willis, the star of the Die Hard franchise, among other huge blockbusters, has been really struggling in recent times after he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
On his birthday, March 19, his wife shared an update on his condition, posting a picture of the actor on a yacht during a holiday some years back.
She said: “Today we celebrate Bruce’s birthday.
“This journey with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) has opened my eyes to the realities so many families face,
“It’s what inspired me to create The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund to raise awareness of FTD, support research, and stand beside the caregivers who carry so much every day.”
Currently there is no cure for dementia.
To those who wanted to support Bruce or others living with the condition, Heming Willis urged people to consider donating to the fund or other organization with a similar goal, or even something as simple as checking in with someone who cares for a dementia patient.
She described it as a ‘small act of kindness that can mean so much.’
An update on Bruce Willis’ condition
She has previously revealed that the 71-year-old star is doing OK physically, which won’t come as a surprise to those who have seen his films.
“He’s still very much present in his body,” she explained.
Despite losing his vocal abilities to the disease, Emma opened up on one touching way that the pair still can find a way of connection.
“He has a way of connecting with me, our children,” she explained.
The pair share their daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, together.
Emma continued: “That might not be the same as you would connect with your loved one, but it’s still very beautiful, it’s still very meaningful — it’s just different,
“You just learn how to adapt to it and meet them where they’re at.”
