There’s one big reason we love caller ID on our phones—it lets us instantly recognize if the person calling is someone we know. If it’s an unknown number, many of us simply let it go to voicemail. But when we do answer those unfamiliar numbers, we sometimes find ourselves dealing with a telemarketer.

While telemarketers are just doing their job, these unsolicited calls can be frustrating, especially when they’re trying to sell us something we neither need nor want. Many people feel the same way.

There are various strategies people use to avoid telemarketers. As mentioned, one common method is not answering the call at all. Another popular approach is to quickly end the conversation after picking up, whether that means abruptly hanging up or coming up with a quick excuse.

However, one man named Donald Sizemore has discovered an even more amusing way to handle telemarketers. His secret? Talk for just a couple of minutes, and the telemarketer will hang up on him! While this trick works perfectly for Sizemore, it’s probably not a technique everyone can pull off as easily.

So, what’s his method? Sizemore talks to the telemarketer in a perfect Donald Duck voice, and his impression is so spot-on that it only takes a couple of minutes for the telemarketer to give up and end the call.

One day, a telemarketer called Sizemore’s wife, Gayle, who had the phone on speaker. When the telemarketer asked to speak with her husband, Donald immediately knew it was a telemarketing call and decided to take over. He answered in his best Donald Duck voice, and sure enough, within minutes, the telemarketer hung up.

Sizemore has been perfecting his Donald Duck impression since he was about 5 years old, and he even did the voice for his wife on their very first date. For him, switching in and out of the voice comes naturally.

While not all of us can imitate Donald Duck, there’s perhaps a lesson to be learned when dealing with telemarketers. If we can manage to be more bothersome than the telemarketer, we might just get them to hang up on us!
