The seventies were a simpler time – of hippie clothes, huge hair, and world famous starlets. Over the decade, numerous women made it big in TV and film, becoming some of the most famous and adored stars in the world. Some shone brightly before fading away, while others have maintained their careers over the years.
Lynda Carter Then
Lynda Carter is most well-known for playing the role of the superhero Wonder Woman in the seventies TV show of the same name. Carter played the heroine for three years, and was made a household name by the show.

Since appearing in ‘Wonder Woman’, Carter has continued to act, appearing in films like ‘Sky High’ and TV shows like ‘Hawkeye’. However, Carter’s main focus has been making and releasing music – having released five albums since 1978.
Sally Field then
During the seventies, Sally Field established herself as one of the most promising actors around, winning an Emmy in 1976 for her role in the TV series ‘Sybil’, and the Academy Award for Best Actress after starring in ‘Norma Rae’ in 1979.

Over the years, Field has only continued to shine – winning a second Academy Award for her role in ‘Places in the Heart’, and yet more Emmys for her roles in ‘ER’ and ‘Brothers and Sisters’. Field was recently nominated for an Oscar for her role in ‘Lincoln’.
Bo Derek Then
In 1979, Bo Derek became famous after appearing in the raucous comedy ‘10’ – and for a time she was one of the hottest names in show business. She continued acting through the seventies and eighties, appearing in films like ‘Bolero’ and ‘Fantasies’.

Derek continued working through to the new millennium, but nowadays she’s hung up her acting shoes and is mostly retired. She still makes sporadic appearances in films and on TV, but devotes most of her time to activism.
Maureen McCormick then
Appearing as Marcia Brady in the ‘The Brady Bunch’, Maureen McCormick was the archetypal American girl during the seventies – and became a popular figure among young women who saw her as something of an icon. She appeared in the original ‘Brady Bunch’ series and its various spin-offs.

After ‘The Brady Bunch’ ended, McCormick suffered several personal troubles, and left the public eye for a time. However, she overcame those troubles and returned to TV and film – currently appearing in the reality show ‘A Very Brady Renovation’.
Ellen Burstyn then
Ellen Burstyn is a veteran actress who worked long before the seventies – but it was a particularly good decade for her. She was in huge films like ‘The Exorcist’ and ‘Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore’ – for which she won an Oscar.
The seventies was not the only good period of Burstyn’s career. In 2000, she received an Oscar nomination for her performance in the acclaimed film ‘Requiem for a Dream’. More recently, she had a major role in the 2012 series ‘Political Animals’.

Although it was not until the eighties that Kim Basinger’s career really took off, she sowed the seeds for her success in the seventies, becoming a successful model, and appearing in the film ‘From Here to Eternity’.
Kim Basinger now
Basinger was huge during the eighties, appearing the Bond film ‘Never Say Never Again’, as well as the movies ‘The Natural’ and ‘Batman’. She continues to work regularly, having recently appeared in the movies ‘The Good Guys’, and ‘Fifty Shades Darker’. She also partakes in animal rights activism.
