A Flipping Performance Holds the Record for the Most Viewed Sports Video for 2019
If you have to guess which sports video has been viewed the most during 2019, you would be surprised to find out that the sport it relates to is not under the top 10 spectators sports and does not even feature in most top 25 lists. The specific performance, therefore, had to be so unique that it outranked clips from even the most-watched sports in the world.
The sport in question is gymnastics, and the athlete is a 22-year-old gymnast, Katelyn Ohashi. Katelyn is no stranger to the podium or at drawing attention. She is a six-time All-American, a four-time member of the Junior National Team, was crowned the champion of the 2011 Visa Championships, and won the 2013 American Cup.
Ironically the video, clocking a viewer’s count of close to 65 million on YouTube, is not one of her championship or international performance, but one as a member of the UCLA team. It is also not the first time she has scored perfect 10s from all judges. So what makes this performance so stunning?
In this routine, Katelyn shows her incredible flexibility and power by virtually bouncing back, like a rubber ball, from every movement her body touches the mat. It even includes when she does a split. You also need to observe as this talented gymnast actually accomplishes additional moves within standard routines like repeated running flips and jumps. She is doubling up on difficulty level, doubling up on skill and power required and doubling op on viewing pleasure. This is one of those, “you had to be there” performances, or you can simply add one more to the view count on YouTube.
