Fans of the 1970s hit sketch musical show Hee Haw lost a favorite. Gailard Sartain passed away. The Church Studio shared the news in a Facebook post.

“We are saddened by the loss of Gailard Sartain, an extraordinary actor, artist, and comedian. His late night visits in the 1970s to the studio after filming Mazeppa are fondly remembered,” the post reads. “Gailard’s artwork is showcased on the cover of Leon Russell’s 1975 album ‘Will O’ the Wisp.’ Our condolences are with Mary Jo, Gailard’s wife and a committed volunteer at The Church Studio.”

LuLu Roman passed away in April at age 78. Both LuLu and Gailard entertain millions on the weekly comedy show. He also starred in major films such as Fried Green Tomatoes, The Outsiders, The Replacements, and More.

Although Hee Haw has been off the air for decades, fans still remember the loveable characters.

The Outsiders House Museum shared a touching Tribute to Gailard on Facebook.

“Rest in Peace, Gailard Sartain. We’re heartbroken to hear of the passing of Gailard Sartain—beloved actor, comedian, and artist. Seen here as Jerry in The Outsiders, Gailard brought warmth and heart to every role he played,” the post reads. “A proud Okie and one-of-a-kind talent, he’ll be dearly missed and always remembered. Stay gold, Gailard.”

Fans shared condolences.

“Yes indeed a proud rip goes to this gentleman. For being in Oklahoma for being a great actor the many movies I saw him in two of my favorites being Hollywood Nights and The Outsiders. As well as a weekly player on ‘Hee Haw,’” a fan shared.

This person agreed, “Rest in Peace and Love, Gailard. Your great talent and creativity for entertaining is legendary. I’m so glad to have experienced your Mazeppa years, movies, and TV shows.”

“Loved him on ‘Hee Haw.’ He will be missed – RIP.”

Gailard Sartain was 78 years old.
